Day 22 of 45

Ok, now that I have your attention......!!
Yesterday I found a great workout to help me with my strength and cardio at the same time!  Have you ever seen the TV show Spartacus? Well this is supposedly the workout that he (Spartacus - see picture above) does just 3 times a week in his busy schedule to stay in shape!
So I thought I'd give it a go! Not that I want to look quite like a roman gladiator, but toned, defined muscles would be good!
Anyway, this workout is a circuit with dumbells.  I tried it last night, and boy was it good.  I didn't get all of it done (had to stop to tend to my poor sick daughter) but I can certainly feel my muscles aching today in all the right places!!
So there's something new to add to my exercise regime for a while - the 3 times a week Spartacus workout!

I also started on our advent calendar sewing project with my youngest daughter yesterday.  We'll finish that off today and I'll post some pictures tomorrow!

A Round Tuit (25) and day 21 of 45!

Hello and welcome to this week's 'Round Tuit'
MOTIVATION and INSPIRATION and the key factors behind my Monday posts and opportunity to link up and encourage, motivate and inspire each other....with your very own ROUND TUIT

Tuits are very hard to come by, especially the round ones. For years people have been saying, "I'll do it as soon as I get a round tuit". Well now you can have one of your very own, and all those jobs that have needed doing will finally get done!

Thanks to those who linked up last week. Here's my favourites!

First of all, another true Round Tuit project - 7 years in the making!
This lovely upcycled denim quilt by sweet bee hollow:

Made from old jeans and a sheet! I just love upcycled things - and this is my kind of patchwork - wonderfully imperfect!!  I love it! Great work Becky!
Have a look at her lovely blog at:
http://sweetbeehollow.blogspot.com/

Would you believe those little buckets are actuallly spray painted cups???  Fantastic! A lovely thrifty project that looks every bit as good - no - make that BETTER! than the original $299 one!!
Go and have a look at some of her other great projects at:

Finally, this fantastic little house from Mich L. in L.A:
She makes jewellery out of the most unusual things! Would you believe this gorgeous little house was originally a tissue box??  Great isn't it?

Creating my way to Success

For me - school is finally out! and my girls and I can settle into getting creative together!  There are so many things to get a round to! Such plans!
To kick off - we're going to make an advent calendar together - which will need to be finished before Wednesday!!  So best get cracking!

I'm almost half way through my 45 day challenge, and getting really motivated now - I'm pushing my goals outwards and upwards. These 45 days are just the beginning - I'm aiming high and going to get there!  Gosh it's amazing how good you feel about yourself and life when you're in a good exercise routine and feel healthy and fit! :)

So please feel free to link up your posts - maybe it's a project you've completed that you're proud of - something you have wanted to get done for a while and need some extra motivation to get going on it - or you'd just like some of that fabulous encouragement, praise and motivation that bloggers are so good at spreading around.

Whatever the reason - grab your very own "Round Tuit" button, and link up.

Day 20 of 45

Started today with a run outside at 6.30am, followed by my 33 push ups! Great way to start the day!
Now we're all going to relax and watch the movie 'Prince Caspian' together!
My girls loved the lion the witch and the wardrobe, and we've never seen Prince Caspian, and now that the next movie (voyage of the Dawn Treader) is coming out in 3D in a few days - I think we'll make that a rare family trip to the cinema!

Lazy Sunday!! :)

Day 19 of 45

So I'm not out at the reef today as was the plan  Unfortunately one of my daughter's woke up sick this morning, so I'm staying home with her, while my husband and other daughter venture out to the reef.
My eldest has done what so many of us do - battled on while at school, staying well and healthy while a nasty virus does the rounds (HEAPS of kids were off sick in the last few weeks).  Then yesterday she finished school - and all the end of term excitement was over, and her body finally got to relax and go phew! and then the virus got her!  Aaaarrgghhh! Poor thing! A restful day is in order - and some of those fantastic fruits I've been finding out about to help fight the nasties!!

I'll  have a treadmill run a little later, and do my daily push ups, and my daughter and I will have a very healthy eating day!!

Day 18 of 45

School's out!!
That's it - all done for 2010! My girls have 'graduated' from Prep and Grade 2!

The Christmas concert this morning was great! But it was even better to bring the girls home and know that's it for the next 2 months!

I have so many plans of fun stuff to do these holidays, but will have to wait to get started until Monday - today we're trying to sort through the piles of books and work both girls brought home, but bags away for the holidays and empty pencil cases! Then tomorrow is a day out at the reef, which will be a great family day out to kick off the summer holidays!

After my push ups yesterday I can feel my chest muscles a little, but not too much - so this evening I'll be able to do more!
I had a good treadmill run last night - I'm up to 21 mins running at 12km/hr and starting to feel strong now!  I've got a long way to go to get where I want to be, but at least I'm on track!  I want to be up to 30mins by Christmas - and 50 push ups! There's a couple of good quantifiable goals for me to work towards over the next 4 weeks!

Day 17 of 45

Apparently it takes 21 days to form a habit!  I think since earlier this year I made exercising every day a habit, it's taken me less than 21 days to get back into it!  I'm loving it, and wanting to exercise now, and finding 45mins a day comfortable now!
So, I'm thinking it's time to crank things up a bit!  I still have just over 21 days left of my 45 day challenge, so what new habits can I form?

Since my eating habits are as good as they're going to get - certainly in this lead up to Christmas, I need to look at the exercise side.  What I'm doing now is all aerobic - so I suppose the sensible thing to do is to start adding strengthening exercises, particularly my arms and upper body which I always find harder to motivate myself to workout than my legs - as they're weaker!.

A few times over the years, I've set myself the challenge of being able to do 50 push ups in one go.  So I'm going to start with that again!

So from now on, I will ADD to my exercise regime, some strengthening exercises each day.  To find out where I"m at now, I'm going to try push ups right this minute, to see how many I can do in one go!  Here goes.........

33!
Better than I thought!  Each time I lapse with my exercise, I lapse for a shorter period of time before getting back into the swing of things!  Not a bad starting point!

Well, From 33 to 50 shouldn't take me that long to build up, if I'm doing something every day!

So right here and now, I'll state that by Christmas, I'll be able to do 50 pushups in one go!

If I can get a killer exercise routine formed into a habit by Christmas, then once New Year arrives, and it's easier - or rather possible - to be less indulgent with what I'm eating, I should be able to do good things then with diet!

Ok - time to get ready for school pick up - last day tomorrow!  I haven't got everything organised that I wanted to before the end of term, but I've done pretty well!

I'm looking forward to getting back into some creative crafting next week, with my girls to help me!

Day 16 of 45

Ok wrapping and cleaning day today! I'm almost there!  Just a last couple of presents to buy tomorrow, then send them off Friday, and I'm done for Christmas!
Strange to be so organised before the end of November, but I've got so many things I want to do with my girls these school holidays, I'm looking forward to having an empty schedule to make the most of it!

Now that nasty tempting bottle of coke got finished yesterday, so temptation has been removed! Good stuff!
A day of housework should work up a sweat (especially in this sticky humidity!) then we can pop on the aircon this evening and get on our bike and treadmill in front of the tv!

Time to get on..

Day 15 of 45

Well yesterday was a reasonably good day - though I did give in to a glass of coke.  Coke is my biggest weakness. It all started with my first pregnancy when my body CRAVED it! I was on a can a day for a LONG time.  Then a couple of years ago, I managed to cut it out - mostly.  I thought it was just the fizzy drinks I craved in the sticky hot summer here, but have found it really is just coke!  So as long as I buy other fizzy stuff for others to drink, I'm not often tempted.  But for our party at the weekend I did buy coke, and now there's an open bottle in the fridge!  Must have more willpower and try to forget it's there, until it's all been drunk!

I did have a great run on the treadmill last night though!  I'm aiming to go for at least 1 min more each time I run, and went for 2 extra minutes last night and felt really strong and good!

Today I'm trying to finish sewing and painting Xmas presents for the girls so I can get them wrapped and hidden before Friday.

Best get a move on!

I looked up onions today - I put them in virtually everything I cook for dinner, so thought I'd find out how good they really are!  Turns out they're amazingly good for reducing cholesterol, protecting against cancer, fighting respiratory infections.........
Pretty much all fruit and veggies seem to be wonder foods! Glad we eat lots of veggies, and my girls now eat them with no complaints!!

Time to get on!

Creating my way to Success

As for me this week - 2 weeks into my 45 day project to look after myself and be fit and healthy once more.  It's all going well-  I"m now in the routine of a 45 min exercise session every day - and watching what I eat a little more!

This is also the last week of school for the year for my two girls.  They have their Christmas play / end of year service on Friday, and their costumes had to be ready for today.  So yesterday I sorted out two little angel costumes!  Not a lot to do - just white clothes - a gold star on an oversized white t-shirt, and then wings!  Now they both had a pair of pink butterfly wings, but refused to accept that angels wings might be pink. So I had to deconstruct them and make them white - well sort of white - with gold stars, and lots of tinsel....

Much more angel like now! Don't you think??
By next week, all will have calmed down, and I can get back into some of my own creativity again!

Day 13 of 45

Just a short entry today.  Last night's party was great fun - a fantastic success, and today is a very s...l...o...w , quiet day!

Definitely far too much over indulgence last night - but that's what happens this season - I enjoy it, and that's one of the (many) reasons I wanted to do this 45 days, to get healthy and stay healthy at this time of year, and not let these indulgent party days make me lazy!  I love the parties and all the good food and wine that goes with it!  Just need my body better able to bounce back from it all!!

I'm off to make a banana milkshake - I've just read it's really good to have the day after a party! Helps rehydrate your body, soothe your stomach and replace important electrolytes and minerals!! yummy too!

Day 12 of 45

Well the power of positive thinking worked and the tingle in my ears and throat went away, and I'm feeling fine!!
I got up early this morning and went for an extra long and hard run, so that I feel I've compensated for the indulgence I know will happen at the murder mystery party tonight!!

We're nearly finished preparing, just got to mop the floors, then sit down and paint my nails! (very important part of the preparation that!!)

I'm very excited about this little shindig!  Never done one of these parties before and I'm sure it'll be fun fun fun!

Best get on with those nails!  No words of food wisdom today I'm afraid!
It's party day.....

Day 11 of 45

Ok, after a party day yesterday, eating chocolate crackles and cake, I'm going to be a bit healthier today!  Unfortunately I can feel a tingle in my ears and back of my throat (LOTS of kids are sick at school just now). I don't want this to turn into being ill, so I'm having a day off exercise today to rest my body!

Today I have to prepare for tomorrow's murder mystery party by cooking all the food! (yes I know, my life seems like one long party just now!)
So I've had my cereal, fruit and egg on bread for breakfast to set me up well for the day, and hopefully this will mean I'm not tempted to eat any of the food I'm preparing!

Eggs are great to fill you up at breakfast time, and PACKED full of nutrition!  They've got Vitamins A,E B and C, Selenium -good for your immune system, Choline - good for mental function, memory and healthy cell membranes; AND Lutein, which is great for your eyes!  WOW!!  They do have a decent amount of fat in them for their size - but I think the nutrition in them outweighs their fat content for one a day at breakfast!

Well, I did say no exercise today, but I'm starting to get in the rhythm of it now, and the idea of not exercising isn't great.  I've just remembered I"ve got a 30min yoga video - perhaps I can squeeze that in today - it's nice and relaxing, probably a good one to do for a restful day!

Ok, best get on...

Day 10 of 45

Today is my youngest daughter's prep graduation party at school.  She's had such an amazing first year at a wonderful school, and we're all very excited about the party!  Her older sister even gets to skip her regular class to come!  Unfortunately Daddy can't make it as he has to work, so to make up for that we'll have a re-enactment of the party tonight for dinner - which means making more chocolate crackles!!

Did well yesterday, eating lots of fruit, and having a HARD cycle in the evening on the exercise bike.  I'm still not back into my exercise routine enough to WANT to exercise every day, still sit down and think , "Oh maybe I could just have a rest day today..." but I'm not letting that thought stick - and pushing myself to get going!  Feels good!

Yesterday I looked up the nutritional benefits of pineapple.  Every fruit I read about is packed full of vitamins and good stuff.  But the humble pineapple, works by cleansing the digestive system of toxins which promotes better digeston and helps stop unnecessary cravings.  So pineapple is a good thing to eat if you're wanting to lose weight!  There is also some research I found looking into pineapple as a possible source of cancer cure, as it can activate certain immune cells in our body, while simultaneously block others!!
Living here in tropical north queensland, pineapples grow well in our garden, and we have an ever growing plantation of them!  Nice to know they're so fabulously good for us as well as being amazingly yummy!!

Ok, on to today - definitely need to get my exercise in today, as there will be lots of yummy party food at the graduation party!

Day 9 of 45

Last night I had a good uphill walk on the treadmill - while watching a tv programme about happiness!!  Nice way to finish the day on a high - after a rejection letter earlier in the day from a publisher (trying to get a book published).

Today I have to stay at school for a while to help my daughter's prep class make chocolate crackles!!  At least I'll have lots of helpers wanting to lick the bowl out, so I won't be tempted!!

I want to do some cooking of my own when I get home - a zucchini slice maybe.  Let me see what nutritional value zucchini has...
Ooooo - zucchini is techically a FRUIT!!!  didn't know that!  Full of Vitamin C, A, folate, potassium, managanese and beta carotene.  And I can freeze it when I've grated it to use in baking later.  That's good as I've a little too much for my zucchini slice recipe, so rather than do an extra big batch of slices, I can freeze some zucchini for next time, and use the left over eggs to make a cake!!

Ok, exercise today will have to see how I go - got to do housework, so may be another evening session!  Knowing I've got my small dress to fit into for our party on Saturday, means I'll be extra good for the next few days. It's pretty tight, and if I over-indulge, I have visions of the dress 'popping' open during dinner when I have that extra mouthful of yummy party food.....

Day 8 of 45

Yesterday I had another good run on the treadmill - 1 min longer than last time. I'm aiming to go for longer each time I run!  Ate well too, with a lovely veal and vegetable stir fry for dinner.

Today I drove all around town doing some auditing for a mystery shopping company I work for.  It was good to get out and about - and explore all the charity shops where I managed to pick up some bargains!  We're having a murder mystery party at the weekend, and my character has to dress 'flashy but trashy'! I got the perfect dress, shoes and belt - all for just $15.  Then in the last shop I went in, all clothes were $2, and I picked up a gorgeous sparkly long evening gown!! FOR $2!!! No idea when I'm going to wear it, but hey, what a bargain!

I did well, snacking on fruit a bar and water while out and about, then came home and made tuna, salad sandwiches for lunch.  Tuna is a good source of protein, with those useful omega 3 fats - which are essential for us, but our own bodies can't make them.  What do they do? Well they reduce inflammation and may help lower risk of heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. They are also important for your brain !!

Exercise will be done this evening - maybe weights outside with my husband, or perhaps on the exercise bike again!

(Oh and my flashy but trashy dress is a size smaller than I am, but I can still squeeze into it!  makes me feel good!)

Thanks to those who linked up last week. Sorry I didn't get around to commenting on everyone's posts - things are crazy busy just now towards the end of the school year for my 2 girls, and also trying to get Christmas presents made, bought, sorted, wrapped and hidden before they're off on holiday!!  Anyay, I did get to look at all your wonderful projects and here's my favourites!

Creating my way to Success

As for me this week - I'm now a week into my 45 day project to look after myself and be fit and healthy once more.  I'm doing well, feeling fit and happier looking in the mirror after even just a few days of eating better and getting back into my exercise routine.  I think with all the frantic Christmas preparations and end of school year activities, it's easy to just have snack and junk food and declare I've no time to exercise!  So to keep myself accountable, I"m posting every day how I'm being healthy!

So today, I'm going to make time to do an exercise video, make sure I drink plenty water and keep up my fruit and veg intake!
Kiwi's are my fruit of choice today...with more vitamin C than an orange - again it's full of goodness, helps keep your skin youthful, protects against respiratory problems, stimulates your intestinal movement - and one website even suggested it helps you sleep better (although I couldn't find a reason why!!)  So I'll have a kiwi today, and pack one each for my girls in their lunch boxes for school!!

Day 6 of 45

A good day today.  Since our treadmill was fixed yesterday, I had a nice run today inside with the aircon on!  Lovely!!  Felt really good, a warm up, a run, an uphill walk, then a jog to finish with!

I also had another kids party to go to.  After last week's overdose of party pies and greasy food, I wasn't going to do that again! I was grateful that the host had put out some healthy food - and I had some fresh fruit, carrot and celery sticks with a little dip, and a few crisps. Much better than a plate full of party pies!!  Then I came home for the last of the leftover homemade pumpkin soup!

I always feel good eating celery!  I never liked it as a kid, and still can't say I particularly LIKE it, but I don't dislike it and it has a nice crunch!  It's also incredibly low in calories, full of vitamin C and is another food item that can reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels, while mopping up those nasty free radicals that can cause mutations and lead to cancer!  It was first used in ancient times as a medicine before then being used as a food, and the Ancient Greeks used the leaves as laurels to decorate their renowned athletes!!!  What a wonder veggie!  We have some growing in our garden just now - I'm wondering how long to leave them before harvesting.  Will they grow as big as the ones in the market that I buy?  I don't want to wait too long and miss them!!

So, feeling good nearly a week into my little health and fitness project!  I got on the scales yesterday and weighed less than I have in years!  My weight fluctuates by a couple of kilos depending on the time of day - but it was still lower than I've had in a while and I got quite excited!  I don't particularly need to loose much weight, more tone up - but a few kilos off wouldn't be a bad thing!!

Until tomorrow!!

Day 5 of 45

Just a quick post today - was up early and out to my monthly market stall with my friend Michelle.  We had quite a successful day - with a fair amount sold.  A nice day too to catch up and have a chat!

Yesterday was a good day, I finally did the mowing, good exercise and had healthy food to eat.  After school my girls had swimming races with a sausage sizzle afterwards.  I resisted the sausages and fizzy drinks to come home for a nice home-cooked thai style fried rice.  Lunch had been home made pumpkin soup - so good fresh food all round!  Pumpkin is very good for you - packed full of vitamins and all sorts of minerals including beta carotene with is a good fighter of heart disease and cancer!, while pumpkin is also low in salt, cholesterol and saturated fat!

Tonight we've just had a game of dodgeball in the garden, which will have to suffice for my exercise for the day!  We also had our treadmill fixed this morning - so I can get back into running in the aircon! (the heat and humidity now makes running outside pretty uncomfortable!)

So - time for tasty home-made chicken burgers with lots of salad for dinner - and perhaps and indulgent glass of wine or two!!!

Day 4 of 45

Yesterday was a very productive day with lots of housework, and I got the urge to rearrange our two patios so they got a spring clean which is great - and the new layout looks great - 'a change is as good as a rest'.  However, it meant the mowing didn't get done, so that's on today's list!

I ate well, and did do my exercise bike session in the evening too.  It's getting very hot here, and the first few minutes were tough, so I finally gave in and put the aircon on, which made it much more pleasant!

The heat means I'm guzzling lots more water than usual, which is a great thing.  It flushes toxins from my body, keeps my skin hydrated, boosts my energy, and helps keep me feeling more full so I'm not snacking so much!  I'm also back to having an egg for breakfast after my cereal!  A good filling and nutritious breakfast sets me up for the day, and mostly stops my mid-morning snacks!
I've also stopped having so many cups of tea - which also reduces my snacking as I always seem to have a biscuit to go with my tea!!  Even just in 3 days, I'm finding I'm not missing my cuppas!  Quite happy with water! (mind you the heat and humidity makes that easier too!!)

The food I looked up yesterday was carrots!  Great source of vitamin A which is good for healthy eyes!  And would you believe it they're actually better for you cooked than raw - as the cooking breaks down the cell walls of the carrots making it easier for your body to absorb the vitamins!

Ok - on with the day.

Day 3 of 45

Well just into my third day now and I'm feeling good!  Looking in the mirror my legs already look slimmer and more toned! - now I know there can't be a visible difference after 2 days, but psychologically I feel there is and I think that's reflected in the way I look at myself!

So much for a day of housework yesterday though, I spent the day Christmas shopping - a very successful day and I'm almost done now!  For once, a day shopping left me feeling energised rather than worn out!  And having missed out on housework yesterday I woke up at 5.30am this morning ready to get stuck into cleaning!!??  (and I'm REALLY not a morning person!).

So I'm enjoying having all this energy and motivation!  My leg muscles have almost stopped aching from my exercise video - they'll get another stretch today, hopefully I'll get the mowing done (1 hr of pushing the mower around the gardens is always a good workout!)  then I think I might have a ride on the exercise bike tonight too!

As far as eating goes, yesterday I had my apple snack while watching my girls do after school swimming.  I like snacking on apples, they fill me up a bit, and take a while to eat so are quite satisfying!

In trying to learn something too, I looked up why apples are so good for you.  Well apart from the usual fruit, vitamin C thing, I found that they're full of pectin (as are most fruit) which helps reduce blood cholesterol!  Goody!!  They also keep your blood pressure down!  Now I've never had a problem with either of these issues, and hopefully by continuing to munch on my apples - I never will!

So onwards and forwards!  feeling good and positive!

Day 2 of 45

Ok, I started out well yesterday. I ate well - decided that I should learn a bit while I'm doing this so each day I'll try to look up something I'm eating in my food book.  Yesterday I looked up and read about oranges, while eating one!  Full of vitamin C - which is generally good for you - and your body needs it to make collagen to keep your skin elastic!  Maybe it'll help get rid of that nasty cellulite??  Also full of fibre, and also antioxidants which help reduce all those free radicals (which can contribute to cancer).  All around a great fruit, and we have a seedless Valencia orange tree planted in our backyard which hopefully next year will start to bear fruit!  Yummy and healthy! Good stuff!

I managed to do some good exercise yesterday too, trying out a Billy Blanks Tae Bo video I borrowed from the library.  I already have his 'flex' video and enjoy that one, this one was the cardio one, and is another great workout.  I'm aching in all my wobbly bits today, which means I'm working just the right muscles!!  It's a good ache, borne of working hard, so I don't mind it!

So a good start to today, with a good sized, healthy breakfast.  It's housework day, which is probably good exercise to stretch all my muscles after yesterday without overdoing it!

Ok, time to get on. I"ll be back tomorrow!

A new project: Day 1 of 45

Events and moments in the last couple of days have spurred me on to my new project :

45 days!

Firstly, we had a very busy weekend.  Saturday mornings are always spent as a family going to the local markets to buy our fruit and vegetables for the week.  This week my husband also had to pop into his work, and I also had some work to do in town.  I do a little work as a mystery shopper, and I had a few assignments to complete.  A few of these assignments were at fast food outlets, so we combined this with our lunch and had a rare fast food lunch of burgers, chips, coke and kebabs!
That afternoon we had a kids birthday party to attend, at which there were plenty of party pies, sweets, chips and generally lots of junk food for kids and adults alike!

The next day we had a day trip to a local historic park, where we had ice-cream snacks and pies for lunch.

By the afternoon on returning home I had a nasty headache and had to lie down for a while.
That evening I had what I've discovered is called a 'visual migraine' where you don't get a headache, but you get funny flashy and fuzzy lights in front of your eyes for a while - not painful, but pretty weird!  I went to bed early, exhaused and not feeling great!

The next day, yesterday, I had a splitting headache all day, to the point of feeling nauseous at times, and needing an afternoon nap.  I didn't really feel hungry all day and felt a bit yeuk!

Also yesterday I had to do some shopping.  While at the shops I passed a store that had nice shorts on sale.  I decided to try a couple of pairs on, but my usual size felt too tight and looked terrible.
Now having spent a weekend eating junk food, and having been a bit slack with exercise of late, I started to feel frumpy and unhealthy!

The final kick into action for me was someone mentioning that it was around 50 days to Christmas now!  Now 50 sounded like a nice round number - Christmas is always a good target to aim for, so I thought , OK, for the next 50 days I will return to being healthy and fit, and get back into a routine where I take care of myself and my body!

Of course this morning I checked and it's only 45 days to Christmas, but hey it's just a number, so that's the number I've now got to work with!

I've found my blog to be a good motivator for me to do things.  Just telling my family, for friends here doesn't have the same effect as putting something out on the internet where potentially a LOT more people can read it.  I don't know why I feel more accountable to people I don't know, or know far less than close family and friends, but whatever the reason, it seems to work.

So for myself, over the next 45 days, I shall be good to myself and my body.  It takes 21 days to form a habit, so in 45 days I should really be able to  reinforce those good habits and be a better me!

To anyone who is reading this, thank you for taking the time - and feel free to join me!  If you leave me a comment I will return the favour!  Every bit of encouragement and motivation helps!

Here goes....

A Round Tuit (22)

Hello and welcome to this week's 'Round Tuit'
MOTIVATION and INSPIRATION and the key factors behind my Monday posts and opportunity to link up and encourage, motivate and inspire each other....with your very own ROUND TUIT

Tuits are very hard to come by, especially the round ones. For years people have been saying, "I'll do it as soon as I get a round tuit". Well now you can have one of your very own, and all those jobs that have needed doing will finally get done!

Thanks to those who linked up last week. Here's my favourites!

Aren't they gorgeous? and a great way to use up scraps!  Ellen comes up with lots of wonderful creative gems each week - so go and see what else she's made at:

As for me this week - I managed to make some hanging jewellery holders for my girls. Now these are going to be Christmas presents for them, so they're hidden away, and I finished them with minutes to spare before school pick up one day and haven't had a chance to sneak them out for a photo since! So sorry - Can't show you what they look like - I'll try to remember to take a couple of snaps before I wrap them...  I'm pleased with the result though, and all that's left to do now is drill a couple of secret holes for hooks in their bedrooms, then hide them behind posters so on Christmas day they can hang them straight up without me needing to get my drill out!
This week my creativeness is going to stretch as far as trying to get all the overseas Christmas presents wrapped and posted!

Then head on over to some of the other links and praise, encourage and motivate.
I'll feature my favourite posts next week.

I hope everyone has a lovely week! I'm looking forward to seeing all your great projects this week!

My daughter's creative space!

Lately I've been doing lots of recycling and repurposing old goods to create new and useful things.  I've used old silver car windscreen shades, old backpacks, old jeans and lots more.  I think this has rubbed off on my youngest daughter - aged 5 !

There are only just 3 weeks left of the school year, and my daughter's school shoes are struggling to last that long.  But it seems crazy to buy new shoes for just 3 weeks, then have a 2 month break before they're needed again, by which time her feet will have grown!

Then the other day she came home and pointed out that one of the straps had broken...

Sadly I said, "I think we're going to have to throw them out."
"No!" cried my daughter.
"But they're broken - you can't wear them any more!"
"I know that, but you can't throw them out!  We could make teddy a belt with the broken straps!"

I love that she's thinking like that! Reuse something rather than throw it away!  I'll have to keep the shoes for a school holiday 'teddy belt' project now!  And fortunately a friend donated a pair of school shoes worn by her daughter last year for the last 4 weeks of term.  Once we've used them, next year I'm sure we'll find someone else in the same situation who can use these 'end of term shoes' too!!

For more wonderfully creative spaces.  Pop over to Kirsty's place at kootoyoo.

A Round Tuit (21)

Hello and welcome to this week's 'Round Tuit'
MOTIVATION and INSPIRATION and the key factors behind my Monday posts and opportunity to link up and encourage, motivate and inspire each other....with your very own ROUND TUIT

Tuits are very hard to come by, especially the round ones. For years people have been saying, "I'll do it as soon as I get a round tuit". Well now you can have one of your very own, and all those jobs that have needed doing will finally get done!

Thanks to those who linked up last week. Here's my favourites! This week I'm really beginning to think about Christmas - so my choices do reflect this!

First of all, a really neat idea to use up those old CD cases -
luminaires!! from Three Jewels in my Crown:

I think this is a fantastic idea - and I think I'll use it to make up a selection of Christmas themed ones with my big pile of old cases! Thanks for the inspiration Crystal!
Go and check out this lovely blog at:

Yet another lovely light idea which would be fantastic for Christmas! I'm just not sure I'm brave enough to drill into the glass!  But Michelle does make it sound easy...
Do go and check out her fabulous blog at:

Finally, another wonderfully creative project from Mich L. In L.A:

Ghostly ornaments for a non-traditional Christmas tree!!!  I think they look like mini chandeliers! Just lovely!

Creating my way to Success

As for me this week - I wanted to look at a new way to store my girls jewellery!
This was proving too messy -

I came up with one idea, which I think looks really cute!

A toadstood jewellery box! Just what every little fairy needs!

The bracelets hang from the sides:

It still has the central mixing pot which unfortunately does nothing to stop the necklaces getting tangled!

But the white spots on the top act as little ring pockets to keep them safe!

I like this, but this week I still want to make them hanging holders. Much better for their growing necklace collections!
I've decided to make them for a Christmas present for them, so need to get them done soon before term ends when I will have less time to sew in secret!!
I'm hoping to get them finished this week, and safely hidden away!

Are you getting organised for Christmas now?  I know a lot of people are way ahead of me in this, and I'm getting very inspired by some fabulous ideas people are kindly sharing on their blogs!
